There are many times in Hip-Hop and Pop-Culture when I think, “They are taking this way too far.” I have to say that rapper Lil B has taken the cake with his latest Album entitled “I’m Gay.” Lil B has quite interesting titles for his songs, often using highly popular celebrity names for titles. Many include Ellen Degeneres, Miley Cyrus, Charlie Sheen and more. The rapper is no fool when it comes to creating a buzz, he knows exactly how to get headlines. In an interview with complex magazine when asked about the album title Lil B responds by saying “I respect the hell out of gays and the Gay community. I am not a gay man. I don’t agree with sex with another man.” The Rapper also tells The Advocate (a LGBT publication) that he choose this album title to show that words didn’t matter. Words certainly matter to GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance against Defamation) whose spokesperson says “As a lyricist Lil B knows that words matter. Slurs have the power to fuel intolerance. We hope that Lil B’s album title is not just a gimmick, and is really a sincere attempt to be an ally. He has the platform and the voice. We hope he uses it in a positive way.” The 23 year old rapper is known for publicity stunts and controversial statements, but maybe this is the first of many non-bogus moves for rapper Lil B. Time will certainly tell.
