Devin Star Tailes, better known as Dev, or even better known as the female vocalist behind “Bass Down Low” and the new “In The Dark” is a rising singing sensation! Her newest single “In The Dark” has exploded, taking the club scene by storm with the song’s edgy-dark yet sensual beat and vibe. She is certainly keeping the bar high, setting the pace with “Bass Down Low,” which was her first single when she was signed to Universal Republic in October 2010.
Of Mexican and Portuguese decent, Dev was born in Tracy, California where she became heavily involved in swimming at the age of four. While in college, Dev made a cover of an Amy Winehouse song that was later posted on Myspace. Soon enough, Dev was contacted by The Cataracts who saw her song and liked her style. She was signed by Indie-Pop, the same label who signed The Cataracts, and six months later, the band and singer joined to create “2Nite,” a hit song on The Cataracts’s new album.
In 2010, “Like a G6″ features Dev and the Far East Movement, blasting the singer even further into the music industry. The song hit number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Dev has since put out her own songs, including “Booty Bounce” and the newest “In The Dark.” Her new album, The Night The Sun Came Up, is scheduled to drop November 1, 2011.
Dev has been compared to Kesha in her vocals and song style. With her new album coming out soon, Dev states “I’m confident enough in what I do that people will see me for who I am.” Nothing like breaking out of the box and being an original!
